- I am not an experienced user, so please bear with my ignorance. I have had this
- problem ever since I purchased my computer a year ago. If I have activated the
- modem (for whatever reason) and then disconnect to resume other activities,
- the modem will automatically answer the phone when some one tries to phone me.
- After 2 rings the modem screeches in their ear. The only thing that has solved
- this problem is restarting the computer or shutting it down completely. There
- must be a better way!
-
- I have Windows 95 and have tried to change the settings. Under the Control
- Panel I click on the Modem button and then from Modem Properties I click on
- Properties. From here I click on Connection, then Advanced... which gets me to
- the "Extra settings" text box. Are you still with me? :-) O.K. I have
- read my modem manual and consequently tried typing in an AT command in the
- Extra settings box. I typed in AT S0=0, which should tell the modem not to
- answer. BUT the modem still answers after two rings.
-
- The above attempt to solve this problem may be way off. Can you give me some
- advice? I have a 14,400 bps Hayes Fax/Modem.
